On a summer night in July 1979, the skies above County Sligo in Ireland were disturbed by a sighting that left eight young people questioning what they had seen. Returning from a dance in Bundoran, they noticed a dim, orange light in the shape of a dome hovering in the sky.

Lorna Nicholson, one of the witnesses, described the light as "comet-like" in appearance, but it moved in ways that no comet could. It hovered, then shifted position, before finally shooting off into the night, leaving the group in awe and confusion.
The sighting sparked curiosity and fear among the locals, as this was not the first time strange lights had been reported in the area. Some speculated that the object was extraterrestrial in origin, while others searched for more mundane explanations. But like many other UFO sightings, the truth behind the Sligo UFO remained elusive.
