As September 1996 drew to a close, a small Scottish town found itself the center of an otherworldly event. Mark McRobbie, a resident of Carden Castle Avenue in Carden, Kirkcaldy, had been enjoying a quiet evening at home when something unusual caught his eye. It was around 11 PM, and as he watched TV with the curtains open, two strange objects appeared in the night sky.

Mark described the objects as "identical triangular lights" that glowed with an eerie white light. They seemed to hover over familiar landmarks—the primary school and Clunie Woods—moving with a speed that defied explanation. Although the objects appeared to be only a few inches long from his vantage point, Mark knew they were much farther away.
What puzzled Mark the most was the silence. The objects moved quickly across the sky but made no noise, adding to the mystery. The sighting came just days after a similar report from nearby Dundee and Glenrothes, making it the second such event in a short span.
Edward Preston from Glenrothes also reported seeing a similar light in the sky on the same night. The local newspaper, The Dundee Courier, covered the story, noting that despite multiple reports, no official explanation had been offered. The strange lights over Fife remained unexplained, leaving residents to wonder if they had witnessed something truly out of this world.
